Few things are more frustrating than gathering your squad for some 3v3 Co-Op in MLB The Show 26, only to get stuck on a frozen loading screen, hit with an immediate disconnect, or left staring at an infinite matchmaking wheel. If you and your friends are struggling to get into a game, you are definitely not alone.
Server handshaking issues, multi-platform communication errors, and even weird bugs in your actual Diamond Dynasty squad file frequently cause the 3v3 lobbies to crash or freeze. Fortunately, the community has found a few incredibly reliable workarounds.
Here is a straightforward, step-by-step guide to troubleshooting the 3v3 mode on both Xbox and PlayStation so you can get back on the diamond.
  • Audit Your Diamond Dynasty Squad First

It sounds strange, but the root cause of many 3v3 lobby crashes actually has nothing to do with your internet connection. Instead, certain player cards in your Diamond Dynasty pool can completely break the player selection screen before the stadium even tries to load.
First, check for Supercharged players. Active Supercharged cards are notorious for instantly freezing Co-Op lobbies. If you have any in your current pool, swap them out for standard versions of those players or choose someone else entirely.
Second, double-check your lineup for duplicates. Make sure no player card is accidentally duplicated or glitched across both your active starting lineup and your bench slots. Clean up your squad, save the changes, and try re-inviting your friends.
  • Fix Matchmaking via Lobby Adjustments

Because MLB The Show 26 relies heavily on crossplay, communication hiccups between Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network happen often. You can bypass these server bugs with a few quick lobby tweaks.
If you are getting constant errors, try swapping the host. Completely disband your current party, and have a different friend create the lobby. If you were originally hosted by someone on Xbox, have a PlayStation user host the squad this time, or vice versa. This forcing of a fresh server handshake often clears up syncing errors.
Keep an eye on the search timer too. If you are queuing into 3v3 with random players and the matchmaking timer ticks past the 2-minute mark, back out of the queue completely and restart the search. Letting the timer run for too long frequently triggers server-side lobby freezes.
Lastly, try toggling crossplay. If your entire 3v3 group happens to be on the same platform (for example, all of you are playing on PS5), go into your main profile settings and disable crossplay entirely. This eliminates the multi-network matchmaking layer altogether, resulting in a much smoother connection. Just remember to turn it back on later if you plan to play with friends on other consoles.
  • Clear Your Console Cache and Local Data

If the game files get stuck in a bad data loop, your console might struggle to properly synchronize with the San Diego Studio servers. Clearing out temporary cache files can give the game a fresh slate.
For Xbox players, you can clear your reserved space. Go to My Games and Apps, highlight MLB The Show 26, and press the Menu button on your controller. Select Manage game and add-ons, look for the Reserved Space file, and delete it.
For both Xbox and PlayStation players, a hard power cycle works wonders. Turn off your console completely—don't just put it into standby or rest mode. Unplug the power cord from the back of the machine and leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in, boot up the system, and try launching the game.
  • The Main Menu Demo Bypass Workaround

If your game drops the connection the exact millisecond you select the 3v3 Co-Op menu, there is a bizarre but highly effective interface trick that the community uses to force a connection.
Launch MLB The Show 26 and just sit on the main menu. Do not press any buttons to enter Diamond Dynasty or any other game mode. Let the game idle completely until it automatically launches into its built-in gameplay demo mode. As soon as the demo starts playing, press a button to exit out of it, and then immediately head straight into the Diamond Dynasty 3v3 menu. For whatever reason, letting the demo load triggers a background server refresh that often bypasses the menu crash entirely.
Still Stuck? Check the Server Status
If you have tried all of these fixes and you still can't get a single 3v3 game to connect, the problem is likely on the developer's end. Sometimes San Diego Studio has to take the servers down for unannounced emergency maintenance or a quick hotfix.
Before you pull your hair out trying to fix your router, hop online and check the MLB The Show Downdetector page or take a quick look at the official MLB The Show account on X (formerly Twitter) to see if the servers are down for everyone else too.
